Hola Reader,

Welcome to The Globetrotter's Gazette: The Queen's Edition, your passport to the world's wonders!

As daylight lingers longer and the flowers bloom on the trees, it's time to welcome the season of renewal. Spring is one of my favorite seasons of the year to travel. Temperatures and crowds are typically lighter at many destinations around the world. Plane tickets are typically more affordable in Spring than during the summer. Spring offers many opportunities to explore the beauty of nature and create unforgettable memories.

Stay tuned for travel news, tips and exclusive offers in this edition of the newsletter, designed to inspire your springtime wanderlust and make your travel dreams a reality.

👑 Celebrations Around the World:

The city that claims to have the oldest St. Patrick's Day parade is New York City. The parade dates back to 1762 when Irish soldiers serving in the English military marched through the streets of New York City to celebrate their Irish heritage and honor St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. This makes the New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade one of the longest-running and most iconic celebrations of its kind in the United States.

However, it was discovered that one other US city held a procession / parade for San Patricio (St. Patrick) at least 150 years prior to the parade held in New York City. No it wasn't Boston or Chicago... it was St. Augustine, FL in the year 1600. How did they find out? Because there were records of gun expenditures for a celebration for "San Patricio" in Spain's northernmost city in the New World - St. Augustine.
Saint Patrick, born in the late 4th century in Britain, became a highly successful Christian missionary. Captured by Irish raiders at 16, he spent six years in captivity before returning to Britain. Inspired by a divine calling, he studied for 15 years and was consecrated as Ireland's second missionary in 432. By his death in 461, Patrick's efforts had largely Christianized Ireland.

  1. Dublin, Ireland: The St. Patrick's Day parade in Dublin is one of the largest and most iconic celebrations of Irish culture, attracting thousands of visitors from around the globe.
  2. New York City, USA: The St. Patrick’s Day parade in New York City is one of the oldest and largest in the world, with millions of spectators lining the streets to enjoy the festivities.
  3. Chicago, USA: Chicago is famous for dyeing the Chicago River green to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, along with a lively parade and events throughout the city.
  4. Boston, USA: Boston's St. Patrick's Day parade is another historic and vibrant celebration, drawing crowds of locals and visitors alike to honor Irish heritage.
  5. Sydney, Australia: Sydney hosts a large St. Patrick's Day parade and festival, featuring Irish music, dance, food, and cultural activities for people of all ages to enjoy.

👑 Travel-related news and other topics:

Japan is facing challenges with over-tourism, particularly at Mount Fuji. The iconic mountain has become a popular destination for travelers, leading to overcrowding and strain on the local environment and infrastructure. As a result, authorities and tourism organizations are exploring measures to manage visitor numbers by increasing the cost to access Mt. Fuji.

One of the ways we can help is by considering alternative destinations to ensure a sustainable and enjoyable experience for both tourists and local communities. If you are planning a trip to Japan soon, here are some nearby mountains to consider that give you a much better view of Mt Fuji and can help the area get a little rest from over tourism and pollution.

As we welcome the fresh air of spring and the opportunities for new adventures, let's keep in mind the importance of traveling with care and thoughtfulness. Whether you're out exploring nature's wonders or diving into lively festivities like St. Patrick's Day, please aim to leave a positive mark on the places we explore. Supporting local communities, showing respect for the environment, and practicing mindful travel can make our journeys more fulfilling and rewarding.

With boundless enthusiasm and gratitude,
